Here’s a Hack to Get Everything Done You Need to Get Done to Live the Best Life!

Mark’s Market Update – 5/18/2023

How the f$@& do you get it all done?

Getting it all done. How do you do it? How do I do it? How do the most successful people do what they do?

Here’s the secret: You can’t.

Life is about discipline and choices.

Discipline is the power to do the things that need to be done each day, every day, efficiently – even if you HATE to do it (book read suggestion: Eat that Frog by Brian Tracy). Do the hard things first (eat the frog) and then the rest of your day can get easy.

But it’s discipline. Someone taught me a while back that motivation isn’t the key – because motivation is external. Discipline is internal. Motivation is the Porsche that you want (911 Targa 4 GTS – OMG, you have no idea how much I want this car…). Discipline is the internal drive to just get up and do it. Over, and over again. Repeat it. Replicate it, and then, finally, systemize it so that it’s efficient.

That’s step ONE.

Step TWO is to do everything, using the discipline and efficiencies you’ve created. How do you make sure that happens?

Well – here’s the hack: you can’t. It’s impossible. You cannot do EVERYTHING. Everything is a choice. If you say yes to one thing – you have to say no to something else. Period.

I’m going to go see my son play in the Texas UIL 6A High School State Men’s Golf championship next week…and I’ll be watching him play for two days. That’s a choice. Because of that – there are some meetings I can’t have on Monday and Tuesday that I would normally have. There are some things I normally do on Monday and Tuesday that I can’t do.

That’s okay – it’s a choice.

BUT – with all choices, remember – to say yes to one thing, you have to say no to something else.

Which brings us to priorities. Figure out what your priorities are, and then build your choice-making around those priorities, and then create discipline to accomplish the priorities. Want a home? Make it a priority – but then understand that you’ll have to say no to other things you might have said yes to.

The more discipline you have, the more efficiencies you can create, and then, the more freedom you will have to create an awesome life.
